Chulabhorn Hospital,  Teams Up with Specialized Neurologists for “CRA BRAIN POWER: Fit Brain, Firm Life”, Showcasing Comprehensive Innovations in Brain and Neurological Care

Bangkok, July 22, 2026 – Chulabhorn Hospital, Chulabhorn Royal Academy, hosted the “CRA BRAIN POWER: Fit Brain, Firm Life” health seminar in honor of World Brain Day 2026. Held at the Convention Hall, 6th Floor, Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana Building, the event aimed to raise public awareness about brain health, emphasizing prevention, early symptom recognition, and access to comprehensive, innovative neurological treatments. By encouraging lifestyle modifications, the initiative seeks to reduce the risk of stroke, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurological disorders, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for people of all ages.
The event was presided over by Damrong Sukitpunyaroj M.D., Deputy Director of Chulabhorn Hospital, accompanied by a team of specialists, including Asst. Prof. Dr. Payothorn Decharin M.D., Head of General Surgery and expert in neurosurgery and neuro-interventional radiology; Arthita Choolam M.D., neurologist; and Chanya Wuthikraikun M.D., geriatrician. Together with representatives from Suntory Beverage & Food (Thailand), they reaffirmed their commitment to promoting neurological knowledge to ensure the sustainable health of the Thai people.

Damrong Sukitpunyaroj M.D. highlighted that the brain is the vital organ controlling all bodily functions, cognition, memory, and movement. Prompt diagnosis and early detection of conditions such as stroke, brain tumors, and Parkinson’s are crucial for effective treatment. In accordance with the vision of Professor Dr. HRH Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana, President of Chulabhorn Royal Academy, who strives to provide all citizens with access to high-quality medical standards and advanced technology, Chulabhorn Hospital remains dedicated to delivering integrated neurological care through multidisciplinary expertise.
The event featured a “Brain Power Talk” session with the following key insights from specialists:
•    Asst. Prof. Dr. Payothorn Decharin M.D. (Neurosurgery): Explained that Brain aneurysms are often asymptomatic until they rupture, which can lead to intracranial hemorrhage and carries a 50–70% risk of death or disability if ruptured repeatedly. Treatment options include surgical clipping, endovascular coiling (using advanced flow-diverter stents to block blood flow to the aneurysm), or conservative monitoring for low-risk cases. He also showcased minimally invasive brain surgery and endoscopic skull-base surgery, which reduce pain and accelerate patient recovery.
•    Arthita Choolam M.D. (Neurologist): Emphasized the FAST acronym for identifying stroke symptoms (Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, Time to call for help). She stressed the mantra “Time is Brain,” warning against self-monitoring or driving oneself to the hospital, as rapid intervention is essential to prevent permanent brain damage and secondary conditions like vascular dementia.
•    Chanya Wuthikraikun M.D. (Geriatrician): Clarified that dementia is not mere forgetfulness but a cognitive decline that impacts daily living. She cited the Lancet Commission’s 14 modifiable risk factors—such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, lack of exercise, and poor sleep—which can help delay disease progression. She emphasized that deep sleep is the body’s natural mechanism to clear waste products like amyloid-beta proteins, which are linked to Alzheimer’s disease.

Additionally, the event showcased modern treatments for Parkinson’s disease, including medication, physical therapy, Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), and MR-guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS), which allows for tremor reduction without the need for craniotomy in suitable candidates. The event also featured an "Experience Zone" offering carotid ultrasound screenings, body composition analysis, cognitive training games, and a "Fit Brain" mini-workshop on meditation and brain-stimulating activities.
