Chulabhorn Hospital, Chulabhorn Royal Academy Hosts “Check Your Fitness to Keep Moving Forward” Event Driving an Active Aging Society: Empowering Thai Seniors to Combat Frailty and Dementia

BANGKOK (March 31, 2026) – Chulabhorn Hospital, Chulabhorn Royal Academy, continues its mission to enhance the quality of life for the elderly by organizing the academic service activity “Check Your Fitness to Keep Moving Forward”. The event aims to foster an “Active Aging” society by encouraging seniors and their families to prioritize preventive medicine, focusing specifically on monitoring and maintaining the balance of body and brain health. This initiative is supported by “BRAND’S GOLD” from Suntory Beverage & Food (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and took place at the 1st-floor Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana Building, Chulabhorn Hospital.

Damrong Sukitpinyarij, M.D., Deputy Director of Chulabhorn Hospital, presided over the opening ceremony and stated: “As Thailand has fully transitioned into a ‘complete aged society,’ it presents a significant challenge to our public health system. The mission of Chulabhorn Royal Academy extends beyond clinical treatment; we are committed to building a strong foundation for ‘Healthy Aging.’ We focus particularly on monitoring ‘Frailty’ and ‘Dementia,’ which are critical factors in enabling the elderly to live independently and happily.”

The event featured in-depth panel discussions led by geriatric specialists from Chulabhorn Hospital, covering topics from frailty screening to dementia prevention:
•Chainarong Tiyadechachai, M.D., a geriatrician, shared insights on Frailty: highlighting that it is not a natural part of aging but a state of physical decline that increases the risk of illness and accidents. He introduced self-assessment tools like the Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) and emphasized Strength Training to increase muscle mass.
•Chanya Wuthikraikun, M.D., a geriatrician, discussed Dementia Prevention: noting that 45% of dementia cases can be prevented or delayed through lifestyle modifications starting from midlife. Key recommendations included the “Heart-Brain Connection” formula, 150 minutes of combined exercise per week, the MIND Diet, and early observation of memory irregularities.
•Ms. Nirawan Fonghoi, a clinical psychologist, led the “Brain Exercise” session, demonstrating five specific movements designed to stimulate cognitive function and memory.
Beyond the stage discussions, the event offered a comprehensive health screening and consultation zone staffed by a multidisciplinary team. Services included:
•Frailty and dementia screening by specialized geriatric nurses.
•Cognitive stimulation workshops led by occupational therapists.
•Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to accurately assess muscle mass and body fat.
•Tailored physical fitness coaching and fall prevention techniques provided by sports scientists and physical therapists.

The “Check Your Fitness to Keep Moving Forward” event reflects the unwavering commitment of Chulabhorn Hospital, Chulabhorn Royal Academy, to be a pillar of health for the Thai people—particularly the elderly. Through this collaboration with BRAND’S GOLD, the Academy aims to drive Thailand toward an aging society characterized by strength, resilience, and a sustainable quality of life.
