Bangkok – Chulabhorn Royal Academy (CRA) officially established the "Faculty of Food and Nutrition Innovation" in 2026, marking a significant milestone in Thailand's health education. The faculty has launched the "Bachelor of Science Program in Medical and Health Food Technology ," welcoming its inaugural class in the 2025 academic year. This program stands as the first in Thailand to integrate food technology, nutrition, and medical science to address modern global challenges where food is no longer just about taste, but a vital key to disease prevention and treatment.

In a world transitioning into a complete aging society and facing a rising incidence of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), "food" has been elevated from general consumption to a crucial instrument of "advanced medicine." Its roles now span from disease prevention and delaying physical degeneration to supporting systematic treatment (Medical Food). CRA recognizes the urgent need to develop a new breed of professionals—"Food Innovators"—who possess deep expertise in both technology and medical application.

Program Highlights: “Think–Create–Expand” for the Health of Thai People
The curriculum is uniquely designed to stand out from traditional food technology programs, focusing on four core pillars:

  • • Food Technology: Mastery of food structures and advanced processing, including food chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, biotechnology, and international quality and safety standards, to develop high-quality food products.

  • • Nutrition & Health Science: Connecting food to the human body through nutritional therapy, pathology, and physiology to design food that solves real health issues.

  • • Research & Innovation: Training in research-driven thinking, from hypothesis formulation and experimental design to product development, creating "Medical & Functional Foods" for practical use in the public health system.

  • • Management: Strengthening business potential, marketing, and innovation management to transform ideas into competitive products in the global market.

Learning within a Comprehensive Health Ecosystem
The Bachelor of Science Program in Medical and Health Food Technologyseamlessly integrates Food Technology + Nutrition & Health Science + Innovation. Students will learn within a real-world environment encompassing leading hospitals and research institutes. Working alongside medical experts allows students to identify genuine problems faced by patients and consumers, leading to effective solutions. This initiative aims to reduce reliance on imported medical food and elevate Thailand as a leader in sustainable health food innovation.

Career Opportunities
Graduates can pursue diverse career paths across various sectors:

  • • Industrial Sector: R&D, QA, or QC researchers and developers of medical and health food products.
  • • Business Sector: Food innovators, health-tech startup entrepreneurs, and medical food representatives.
  • • Academic & Public Sector: Academic officers in regulatory bodies (such as the FDA or Department of Livestock Development), researchers, or university professors.
