MHESI Minister Visits TIGERS-X Lab at Chulabhorn Royal Academy, Tracking Full-Scale Space Research Mission
BANGKOK (29 May 2026) – The Princess Srisavangavadhana Faculty of Medicine, Chulabhorn Royal Academy (CRA), officially opened its laboratory for the TIGERS-X Project (Thailand Innovative G-force varied Emulsification Research for Space exploration).

Also known as "Medical Food Research Robotics with Space Technology," the facility welcomed Professor Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), who visited the laboratory to witness the live data connection directly from space.
The Minister was warmly received by Emeritus Professor Rajata Rajatanavin, M.D., Acting Deputy Secretary-General of Chulabhorn Royal Academy, alongside Associate Professor Teerapat Ungtrakul, M.D., Acting Dean of the Princess Srisavangavadhana Faculty of Medicine, CRA. Assistant Professor Dr. Wares Chancharoen,
the Lead Project Developer of TIGERS-X project, along with his research team, guided the delegation through the laboratory located on the 5th floor of the Princess Srisavangavadhana College of Medicine Building, CRA.
During the visit, the research team presented updates following the successful activation of the system by astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS). This milestone officially launched the full-scale scientific experimentation in a microgravity environment on May 26, 2026. The Minister joined the TIGERS-X research team in tracking real-time experimental data from the ground station, marking another historic chapter and a source of immense pride for Chulabhorn Royal Academy.
About the TIGERS-X Project
The TIGERS-X Project (Thailand Innovative G-force varied Emulsification Research for Space exploration) or "Medical Food Research Robotics with Space Technology" involves the development and deployment of a cutting-edge, Thai-made "Lab-on-a-chip" scientific laboratory payload to conduct actual experiments aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The core technology relies on Lab-on-a-chip, which scales down a medical laboratory to the size of a tiny chip or business card. This breakthrough allows the entire experimental payload to be compacted into the size of a laptop, making it ideal for space transportation. The primary scientific objective is to study emulsification—the process of mixing immiscible liquids, such as water and oil. This phenomenon forms the foundation of food science and pharmaceuticals. The experiment aims to understand molecular behavior without the interference of Earth's gravity. The TIGERS-X experimental payload successfully established a connection signal with the ISS on the night of May 26, 2026, at 22:00 PM (Thailand Time). The ground control room at the Princess Srisavangavadhana College of Medicine, CRA, has already received the first set of experimental data beamed directly from space.
