The Princess Srisavangavadhana Faculty of Medicine Hosts Thailand’s First Geant4-DNA International Tutorial

Princess Srisavangavadhana Faculty of Medicine, Chulabhorn Royal Academy, hosted the Geant4-DNA International Tutorial with the objective of enhancing knowledge and skills in Monte Carlo simulation in medical physics, as well as fostering collaborative networks among faculty members, researchers, students, and the general public. The event was officially opened by Assistant Professor Dr. Thiansin Liamsuwan, Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies and Chair of the Doctoral Program in Medical Physics and Medical Engineering (International Program), Princess Srisavangavadhana Faculty of Medicine.
The training featured internationally recognized expert speakers, including

  • Asst. Prof. Konstantinos Chatzipapas, TU Delft, The Netherlands
  • Dr. Sebastien Incerti, CNRS, France
  • Dr. Le Tuan Anh, Hanoi University, Vietnam
  • Dr. Dousatsu Sakata, AIST, Japan
  • Dr. Ngoc Hoang Tran, CNRS, France

The event was held from 18 – 20 March 2026 at the Princess Srisavangavadhana College of Medicine Building, Chulabhorn Royal Academy, Bangkok, Thailand.

Assistant Professor Dr. Thiansin Liamsuwan stated that “Geant4-DNA is the extension of a general-purpose particle–matter Monte Carlo simulation toolkit used to model radiation interactions at the DNA level. The development of Geant4-DNA has been continuously carried out since 2008 through international collaborations, including the European Space Agency (ESA), the National Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics of the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), France, and Osaka University, among others. In 2026, the Geant4-DNA collaboration expressed interest in organizing a training workshop on the use of the Geant4-DNA simulation toolkit for new users in Thailand and the Southeast Asian region. The initiative aims to provide opportunities for interested participants to gain a fundamental understanding of the software and apply it to their own research, as well as to serve as a platform for knowledge exchange in related research fields.”

In this regard, the Medical Physics research group of Princess Srisavangavadhana Faculty of Medicine, Chulabhorn Royal Academy, has long been engaged in research and applications involving such Monte Carlo simulations. As a result, the institution has been entrusted to host the Geant4-DNA Tutorial, which has been organized more than 15 times worldwide since 2010.

This marks an important opportunity for Princess Srisavangavadhana Faculty of Medicine, Chulabhorn Royal Academy, to host this international academic training for the first time in Thailand. The event serves as an academic service in medical physics for faculty members, researchers, students, and the general public, focusing on simulation applications. It also provides a platform to strengthen research collaborations with the Geant4-DNA collaboration and other participating research groups, while fostering partnerships with leading global organizations. Furthermore, it enhances opportunities to apply acquired knowledge toward the development and planning of Thailand’s healthcare system in the future.
