Chulabhorn Hospital Organizes Event for "World Lymphoma Awareness Day 2026"
Innovative CAR-T Cell and Stem Cell Therapies, Emphasizing “Lymphoma: Early Detection Brings High Chance of Cure”

BANGKOK, September 23, 2026 – Chulabhorn Hospital, Chulabhorn Royal Academy, organized a health promotion campaign for "World Lymphoma Awareness Day 2026" under the theme “Stronger Together, Brighter Tomorrow: Power of Hope for a Better Tomorrow.” The event aimed to raise public awareness, promote preventive healthcare, and drive sustainable policies for cancer treatment. Held at the Connecting Hallway, 3rd Floor, Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana Building, Chulabhorn Hospital, the opening ceremony was presided over by Damrong Sukitpunyaroj M.D., Deputy Director of Chulabhorn Hospital, alongside a team of medical specialists led by Aimwipa Lueprasitsakul M.D., Head of the Hematology Unit and Hematology Specialist, who shared knowledge and guidance on lymphoma care.

The Hematology Unit at Chulabhorn Hospital focuses on providing excellent medical services and research innovations in oncology, ensuring equal access for the public to quality diagnostic and treatment standards that meet international benchmarks. For this year, the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) designated the campaign theme "UNITED BY UNIQUE: Places People at The Centre of Care," highlighting patient-centered care that addresses individual needs and differences alongside proactive health management. Despite the terrifying perception of lymphoma, rapid medical advancements today reassure us that “Lymphoma is not the end, but the beginning of a hopeful journey to recovery.” It remains one of the few cancers with a remarkably high chance of cure if detected early and treated correctly.

The event featured a wide array of academic and health services, drawing strong interest from patients, families, and the general public. During the medical knowledge seminar on lymphoma diagnosis and treatment, specialists from Chulabhorn Hospital highlighted CAR-T Cell Therapy—an advanced cellular therapy that genetically modifies a patient’s own immune cells (T-Cells) in the laboratory to specifically target and destroy cancer cells. This serves as an effective new treatment option for patients with hard-to-treat or relapsed lymphoma.

This was presented alongside guidance on Stem Cell Collection & Transplantation to restore bone marrow function and generate healthy blood cells, safely increasing survival rates and chances of recovery. The medical team emphasized a key clarification: “Bone marrow transplantation is not an organ transplant surgery.” Instead, it is an internationally standardized treatment for hematologic malignancies such as lymphoma, leukemia, and multiple myeloma. The process begins with high-dose chemotherapy to destroy abnormal cancer cells, followed by the infusion of healthy stem cells—collected either from the patient or a donor—into the bloodstream to regenerate a healthy blood-forming system.

Chulabhorn Hospital systematically structures the stem cell transplantation process into 6 steps:
1. Stem Cell Mobilization: Administering medication to stimulate stem cells to move from the bone marrow into the bloodstream.
2. Stem Cell Collection (Apheresis): Harvesting stem cells using state-of-the-art medical equipment.
3. Cryopreservation: Storing the collected stem cells in ultra-low temperature freezing conditions until transplantation.
4. Conditioning: Administering high-dose chemotherapy to eliminate remaining cancer cells.
5. Stem Cell Infusion: Thawing and infusing the stored stem cells back into the patient’s bloodstream.
6. Recovery and Monitoring: Providing close care in a sterile room until blood counts normalize, followed by a formal treatment response evaluation approximately 3 months post-transplant.

Additionally, the event provided tailored nutritional guidance for cancer patients by certified professional dietitians, safe physical exercise recommendations by sports scientists, and a peripheral blood stem cell donation booth hosted by the National Blood Centre, Thai Red Cross Society.
