HRH Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana Visits Chulabhorn Hospital’s Royal Medical Mobile Unit and Operates Chulabhorn Volunteer Veterinary Unit in Nong Khai Province to Sustainably Care for Public and Pet Health

On May 24, 2026, Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana, President of Chulabhorn Royal Academy, Chancellor of Chulabhorn Royal Academy Council, and Acting Secretary-General of Chulabhorn Royal Academy, visited Chulabhorn Hospital’s Royal Medical Mobile Unit and operated the Chulabhorn Volunteer Veterinary Unit at Rajaprajanugroh 27 School, Phon Phisai District, Nong Khai Province. On this occasion, Associate Professor Surasak Leelaudomlipi M.D., Acting Director of Chulabhorn Hospital, Chulabhorn Royal Academy, was present to welcome Her Royal Highness and report on the operations of Chulabhorn Hospital’s Royal Medical Mobile Unit. The unit provided medical and public health services to the public from May 20–24, 2026, across the upper northeastern region, including Nakhon Phanom, Bueng Kan, and Nong Khai provinces. This initiative aims to drive proactive medical and public health services to maximize benefits for citizens nationwide, especially in rural areas, while simultaneously establishing rabies-free zones for pets and stray animals in areas where outbreaks persist.

For today’s Royal Medical Mobile Unit operation, the Nong Khai Provincial Public Health Office, along with Phon Phisai Hospital and the Nong Khai Provincial Office of Social Development and Human Security, collaborated to provide general medical check-ups and health consultations to local rural residents. Driven by Her Royal Highness’s profound concern for the well-being of Thai citizens living in remote areas, the mission ensures thorough access to medical and public health services. Today, a total of 102 people received health check-ups. The most common health issues found were musculoskeletal disorders (63 cases), neurological system issues (16 cases), digestive system issues (12 cases), respiratory system issues (5 cases), and cardiovascular diseases (5 cases). Additionally, 7 patients were referred to local hospitals for further diagnosis and treatment.
On this auspicious occasion, Her Royal Highness graciously donated 500 doses of rabies vaccine to the Nong Khai Provincial Livestock Office to build immunity for animals in the area. Currently, rabies remains a major public health challenge in Thailand, as there is still no cure for the disease. Furthermore, Her Royal Highness performed veterinary duties alongside the Chulabhorn Volunteer Veterinary team to conduct sterilization surgeries for owned pets and stray animals. This control of the animal population prevents it from exceeding local care capacities, making sterilization a crucial approach to reducing the number of stray animals and effectively controlling the spread of rabies. The operation of the Chulabhorn Volunteer Veterinary Unit aligns with the strategic framework of the project "Disease-Free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies: Following the Royal Determination," which focuses on comprehensive rabies control and prevention, including animal vaccination, sterilization, raising public awareness, and systematically managing stray animals.
